POP3 settings for Hosted Exchange mailboxes

This article will provide the settings required to configure your email client to connect to your Hosted Exchange mailbox via POP3.

Incoming mail server: exchange.iinet.net.au
Incoming mail server port: 995
Outgoing mail server: smtpauth.exchange.iinet.net.au
Outgoing mail server port: 587
Login: Your full email address (e.g. john.citizen@exchange-demo.net.au)
Password: Your mailbox password.
Secure (SSL) Connection: Enabled (Yes)
SMTP Authentication Required: Yes

  1. Launch Mozilla Thunderbird.
     
  2. Click Email under Create a new account.
     
  3. Click Skip this and select use my existing email.
     
  4. Fill out the following details:

    Your Name: Your name as you'd like it to be shown to your e-mail recipients.
    Email Address: Your full email address (e.g. john.citizen@exchange-demo.net.au).
    Password: Your Password for that email address.
     

  5. Click Continue and then Manual Config.
     
  6. Enter the following information about your incoming server:

    Select the POP type.
    Type in "exchange.iinet.net.au" in the Server Hostname field.
    Select SSL/TLS under SSL.
    Select Normal Password under Authentication.
     

  7. Enter the following information about your outgoing server:

    Type in "smtpauth.exchange.iinet.net.au" in the Server Hostname field.
    Select 587 under Port.
    Select STARTTLS under SSL.
    Select Normal Password under Authentication.
    Type in your full email address (e.g. john.citizen@exchange-demo.net.au) in Username Incoming. Outgoing will autoupdate with the full email address too.
     

  8. Click Done to finish. Your POP email account is now created.
     
  1. Start Outlook Express. Choose Tools > Accounts from the menu on the top.
     
  2. Click the Add button and choose Mail.
     
  3. Display Name: Type your mailbox display name and click Next.
     
  4. E-mail address: Type your full email address (e.g john.citizen@exchange-demo.net.au) and click Next.
     
  5. Choose My incoming server is a POP server from the dropdown box. Fill in the following mail server information:

    Incoming mail server: exchange.iinet.net.au
    Outgoing mail server: smtpauth.exchange.iinet.net.au
     

  6. Click Next
     
  7. Fill in the following login information:

    Account name: Type your full email address (e.g john.citizen@exchange-demo.net.au).
    Password: Type your mailbox password.

  8. Click Next, then click Finish.
     
  9. Select mail account named "exchange.iinet.net.au" and click Properties button.
  10. Switch to the Servers tab.
  11. In the Outgoing Mail Server section, check My server requires authentication.
  12. Switch to the Advanced tab.
     
  13. In the Server Port Numbers section, check This server requires a secure connection (SSL). Click OK to finish.
     
  1. Open Mac Mail. If you are presented with an account creation screen immediately, please skip to step 4.
     
  2. Click Mail, and select Preferences then Accounts.
     
  3. Click the plus sign (+) at the bottom to add a new account.
     
  4. Enter your full name, email address and password and click Continue.
     
  5. Set the Account Type as POP and fill out the following fields:
    • Incoming Mail Server: exchange.iinet.net.au
    • User Name: Enter your email address (e.g. john.citizen@exchange-demo.net.au).
    • Password: Type your password.
    • Outlook Web Access Server: https://exchange.iinet.net.au/owa/
       
  6. Click on Continue.
     
  7. Fill in the following fields.
    • Outgoing Mail Server: smtpauth.exchange.iinet.net.au
    • Tick Use Authentication.
    • User Name: Enter your email address (e.g. john.citizen@exchange-demo.net.au).
    • Password: Type your password.
       
  8. Click on Continue.
    • If you are presented with an Outgoing Mail Security screen tick the Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) checkbox.
    • Select Password from the Authentication drop-down menu.
    • Click Continue.
       
  9. Ensure the Take account online checkbox is ticked and click Create.
     
  1. Open Mac Mail. If you are presented with an account creation screen immediately, please skip to step 4.
     
  2. Click Mail, and select Preferences then Accounts.
     
  3. Click the plus sign (+) at the bottom to add a new account.
     
  4. Select Add Other Mail Account and click Continue.
     
  5. Enter your full name, email address and password and click Continue.
     
  6. Set the Account Type as POP and fill out the following fields:
    • Incoming Mail Server: exchange.iinet.net.au
    • User Name: Enter your email address (e.g. john.citizen@exchange-demo.net.au).
    • Password: Type your password.
       
  7. Click on Continue.
     
  8. Fill in the following fields.
    • Outgoing Mail Server: smtpauth.exchange.iinet.net.au
    • User Name: Enter your email address (e.g. john.citizen@exchange-demo.net.au).
    • Password: Type your password.
       
  9. Click on Continue.
    • If you are presented with an Outgoing Mail Security screen tick the Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) checkbox.
    • Select Password from the Authentication drop-down menu.
    • Click Continue.
       
  10. Click Create.
     
  1. Open Outlook.
     
  2. In the Tools menu, click Account Settings.
     
  3. Click New.
     
  4. Select Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP and click Next.
     
  5. Select the Manually configure server settings or additional server types checkbox at the bottom of the Wizard screen, and then click Next.
     
  6. Select Internet E-mail, and then click Next. Provide the following information in the available fields:

    Your Name: Your name as you'd like it to be shown to your e-mail recipients
    E-mail Address: Your full email address (e.g john.citizen@exchange-demo.net.au)
    Account Type: POP
    Incoming mail server: exchange.iinet.net.au
    Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtpauth.exchange.iinet.net.au
    User Name: Your full email address (e.g john.citizen@exchange-demo.net.au)
    Password: Your email password
     

  7. Click More Settings.
     
  8. Move to the Outgoing Server tab, and then select the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication checkbox. Click Use same settings as my incoming mail server.
     
  9. Move to the Advanced tab. Configure them as follows:

    Tick the box located below the Incoming server (POP) field, SSL on.
    In the drop-down menu located below the Outgoing server (SMTP) field, select TLS and change to port 587.
     

  10. Click OK to save your changes.
     
  11. Click Test Account Settings to check that your account is working. If there is missing or incorrect information, such as your password, you are prompted to supply it or correct it.
     
  12. After seeing the message "Congratulations! All tests completed successfully", click Close.
     
  13. Click Next, and then click Finish.
     
  1. Open Outlook.
     
  2. Click File, then Account Settings.
     
  3. Click New.

  6. Click More Settings.
     
  7. Move to the Outgoing Server tab, then select the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication checkbox. Click Use same settings as my incoming mail server.
     
  8. Move to the Advanced tab. Configure these settings as follows:

    Tick the box located below the Incoming server (POP) field, SSL on.
    In the drop-down menu located below the Outgoing server (SMTP) field, select TLS and change to port 587.
     

  9. Click OK to save your changes.
     
  10. Click Test Account Settings to check that your account is working. If there is missing or incorrect information, such as your password, you are prompted to supply it or correct it.

  1. Open Entourage 2004.
     
  2. Click Entourage, then select Account Settings.
     
  3. Click New.
     
  4. Enter your email address (e.g. john.citizen@exchange-demo.net.au) into the E-mail address field. Click the right arrow (>) twice.
     
  5. Fill out the following fields:

    Enter your name in Your Name field.
    Enter john.citizen@exchange-demo.net.au to the Account ID field.
    Enter your Mailbox Password to the Password field.
    Check the Save password in Mac OS X Keychain checkbox.
    Enter "exchange.iinet.net.au" in the Incoming mail server field.
    Set Incoming mail server type to POP.
    Enter "smtpauth.exchange.iinet.net.au" in the Outgoing mail server field.
     

  6. Click the right arrow (>) twice.
     
  7. Click Skip.
     
  8. Enter a display name for your account in the Account name field. Click Finish.
     
  9. Click on the account you just created in the Accounts window.
     
  10. Select Click here for advanced receiving options.
     
  11. Check the This POP service requires a secure connection (SSL) checkbox, then close the pop-up window.
     
  12. Select Click here for advanced receiving options.
     
  13. Click Server Settings.
     
  14. Check the SMTP service requires secure connection (SSL) checkbox. Select Use same settings as receiving mail server option, then close the pop-up window.
     
  15. Click on OK then close the Accounts window to finish.
  1. Open Entourage 2008.
     
  2. Click Entourage, and select Account Settings.
     
  3. Click New.
     
  4. Set Account type as POP. Click OK.
     
  5. Fill out the following fields:
     
    Enter your email address (e.g. john.citizen@exchange-demo.net.au) in the Account Name and Email Address fields.
    Enter your name in Name field.
    Enter your email address (e.g. john.citizen@exchange-demo.net.au) in the Account ID field.
    Enter your Mailbox Password in the Password field.
    Check the Save password in Mac OS X Keychain checkbox.
    Enter exchange.iinet.net.au in the POP server field.
    Enter smtpauth.exchange.iinet.net.au in the SMTP server field.
      
  6. Select Click here for advanced receiving options.
     
  7. Check the This POP service requires secure connection (SSL) checkbox, then close the pop-up window.
     
  8. Press Click here for advanced receiving options again.
     
  9. Check the SMTP service requires secure connection (SSL) checkbox. Select Use same settings as receiving mail server, then close the pop-up window.
     
  10. Click OK, then close the Accounts window to finish.

 

  1. Open Outlook 2011 for Mac.
     
  2. Open Tools > Accounts...
     
  3. Click the + (plus) icon in the bottom left-hand corner and then click E-mail...
     
  4. Fill out the following fields:

    Enter your email addres (e.g. john.citizen@exchange-demo.net.au) in the E-mail address field.
    Enter your password to the Password field.
    Enter your email addres (e.g. john.citizen@exchange-demo.net.au) in the Username field.
    In the Type drop-down menu, select POP.
    Enter "exchange.iinet.net.au" in the Incoming server field.
    Check the Use SSL to connect (recommended) checkbox under the Incoming server field.
    Enter smtpauth.exchange.iinet.net.au in the Outgoing server field.
    Check the Use SSL to connect (recommended) checkbox under the Outgoing server field.
     

  5. Click Add Account.
     
  6. Enter your name in the Account description field.
     
  7. Click More Options...
     
  8. In the Authentication drop-down menu, select Use Incoming Server Info.
     
  9. Click OK to finish.
